Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Heshilafu, Shache County, Xinjiang. It was named by the compiling group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale of Xinjiang in 1981.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone and Claystone. Composed of gray and dark-gray limestones, organic limestone, gray and gray-green shale, gray and yellow-green sandstone intercalated with various dark-colored mudstones, 480 m thick. Lithology is regionally stable, and thickness increasing from east to west.

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Heshilafu Fm

Conformable contact with the overlying Azigan Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the Qipan subprovince, well developed at the piedmont Kunlun Mts. along Yengjisar−Yecheng−Pishan, and also exposed at Qingshigou

Fossils

Containing abundant Fusulinid Profusulinella-Pseudostaffella zone, Coral Caninia-carinokoninckophyllum-Neokoninckophyllum assemblage zone, Brachiopods Choristites jigulensis and Linoproductus sinensis, conodont Idiognathodus delicatus-Neognathodus bassleri-Idiognathoides corrugata assemblage zone, Foraminifer Bradyina-Plectogyra-Globivalvulina and Glomospira-glomospiroides-Plectogyra assemblage zones, as well as bivalves, etc.
